The Blessings of Obedience

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “The Blessings of Obedience”. Let me begin by asking: Why is obedience to God important? It is because God knows we cannot survive by living a life of rebellion. When the word of God says “obey and live” – we can equally deduce the opposite – “disobey and die”. He said in Deut.30:19, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” One of the greatest problems of man with God has always been man’s incessant lifestyle of disobedience to God’s commands. It all began in the Garden of Eden with Adam. Man always wants to do the opposite of what God demands. And in so doing, he keeps falling short of the glory of God. The sin of disobedience has robbed man of many good things in life. Just ask yourself: What has the Lord been telling you to do that you’ve been ignoring? Probably, a still small voice may have been whispering to you: “Son, I need your attention; you have been more on twitter, facebook, whatsapp, and instagram than me lately.”

Unfortunately, many of us will hear this voice and snub at it. You see, we live in an era where we hear a lot of preaching on the grace of God that covers all sins. Therefore, we are entitled to fall and rise continuously because the grace of God is there for us. Romans 6:1-2 declares, “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” Listen, the grace of God has expiration. Some may say, well, God’s mercy endures forever. Yes! But should God’s mercy be taken for granted? You may have been postponing the day of your salvation because the mercy of God is still keeping you. But if you die in your iniquity, that same mercy won’t speak for you when you stand before Jesus. Why? There is no mercy or repentance after death. As it is written, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Period! No one can escape it.

Sometime ago while driving on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, I saw a fatal accident that happened on the bridge, with some people trapped under the vehicle, and a lady’s head cut-off and was lying on the bridge. It was a horrible sight. Now, imagine those who lost their lives in that accident standing before Jesus unprepared. What will be their excuse? Remember, there are blessings for obeying God. The Lord said in Isaiah 1:19, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” Job 36:11 further buttressed God’s blessings for obedience by saying, “If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.” Never forget, “Obedience is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22). Meaning, you cannot bribe God. You cannot substitute obeying God by giving big tithes and fat offerings. Just do what God expects from you, and then see His blessings and favours abound towards your life. Have the most fulfilling and fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
