Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be looking at a very interesting topic, “Word Addiction”. Presently, we see people getting addicted to so many things – ranging from cocaine, sex, internet, food, just name it. All these addictions are leading so many involved to self-destruction and negatively impacting the lives of others around them. As a child of God, it is about time you become word addicted. Let’s lay some foundation about what we are talking about. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). The Almighty God made His Word equal with Himself. No wonder He said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away but my word shall never pass away” (Matt.24:35). Why? The word of God is as eternal as God. As we know, the word works wonders. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Heb.4:12). “Is not my word like a fire, says the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” (Jere.23:29). When a man embraces the word of God in his life, he becomes a living wonder to his generation. What separates men of exploits from ordinary men is their adaptability to the word of God in all situations of life.
In other words, whatever the word of God says about them or any situation, they believe. But that doesn’t come so cheaply. A man must apply himself to the study of the word to get acquainted with it. The Bible says in 2 Tim.2:15, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Listen, we all hear of mountain moving faith – it does not come by prayer. Faith comes by practical application of yourself to the word. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom.10:17). Faith is the vehicle with which you get answers to your prayer. It facilitates the response of your prayer from God to get the intended result. That is why the Bible says, “The prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up” (James 5:15). Meaning, it is a faith prayer – not faithless prayer – that gives you the answer that you need. Therefore, the truth and revelation you receive from the study of the word gives you the confidence to pray in faith with the hope of an answer. And God knows the importance of His word in your life, and for that reason, He admonishes you to get addicted to it.
The Lord said in Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Friends, not reading your Bible as a Christian leaves you vulnerable to the devil. Why? If you do not know your right, how can you claim what rightfully belongs to you. Nothing liberates like the truth. Therefore, the knowledge of the truth of the word of God is what liberates a man. Jesus said to his disciples, “If you continue in my word then are you my disciples indeed; and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32). From this scripture, Jesus said to them, “If you continue”. Meaning, there is a need for consistent lifestyle of feeding on the word. It must be intentional, and not when you just feel like. What gives a man stature in the realm of the spirit is the word. The word of God is food to your spirit, as physical food is to your flesh. And if you do not feed on it, you die gradually in the spirit. That is why some look big in the physical but dwarfs in the spirit. Why? They lack the word. I pray that will not be your portion in Jesus Name. Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
