Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “Hearing And Obeying God’s Voice.” Let me begin by saying emphatically that, the greatest asset you have as a child of God is to hear God’s voice. Not hearing the voice of God opens the door to hearing the voice of strangers. Jesus spoke a parable in John 10:1-5 saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Hear me, when God is speaking, He expects us to pay special attention to his voice. Why? There are other voices out there. Secondly, paying heed to his voice brings about illumination, provision, deliverance, direction, and ultimately fulfilment of destiny, which the voice of a stranger cannot offer. Yes, you can’t go astray when you tune in to hearing God’s voice. For the words that God speak is a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path” (Psalm 119:105).

Indeed, the struggles of a man’s life is half solved the day he turns from listening to strange voices to hearing what God is saying concerning his life and situation. Those who commit suicide that we see on the pages of newspapers has lost touch with God’s voice. Their ears have been tuned to hearing the voice of a stranger. Who is the stranger here? The devil. He has nothing good to tell you. He keeps trying to negate God’s voice by infusing his evil intentions into our ears. Unfortunately, many today have their ears tuned to the negative reports of what the enemy is saying. Because their ears are not attentive to know God’s voice, they keep hearing wrong voices, and ultimately confess what they hear. Remember, you have what you say. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:37). If for example the strange voice tells you “You’re poor and full of lack”, then tune to God’s voice that’s ever telling you, “You’re rich, not poor” (2 Cor. 8:9); “I shall supply all your needs according to my riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). If the voice tells you that, “You’re sick and dying”, then reject it and tune to God’s voice that says, “By His stripes you are healed” (Isaiah 53:5); “I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). Hallelujah! Do not pay attention to the voice of the devil. Don’t even give it a thought. “Lest Satan should take advantage of you; for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Cor. 2:11).

Never forget, it is one thing to hear God’s voice, but more importantly to act on what you hear. James 1:22-24 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” It is acting on what God says to you that brings about a turnaround in your life. Therefore, the greatest accomplishment you can ever achieve is doing what God’s voice tells you to do. This is where obedience comes into play. For the Lord says in Isaiah 1:19, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.” Obedient to what? Obedience to God’s instruction and command for your life. It’s the obedience to God’s voice that brings his commanded blessings to our lives. Yes, there is no short cut to receiving God’s blessings, other than obeying his voice. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 declares, “If you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” I pray as you go this week, you will not only hear the voice of your heavenly Father, but be obedient to His voice in Jesus Mighty Name.
