Knowing God.

Let me begin by saying emphatically that nobody will know God for you. You must invest the time to know God for yourself if you desire to have a life changing experience with Him. Psalm 103:7 says, “The Lord made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” Why? Moses had a close relationship with God that he knew God so well to reason together with Him. Yes, Moses could converse with God and convince Him not to take certain actions, and God would listen to his counsel (Numbers 14:11-20).
Hear me, those who know God understand His ways; and to those who lack the knowledge of His ways can only see His acts – His signs and miracles – but unaware how it comes about. The children of Israel saw the mighty works of God – Red sea parted before them, they saw Pharaoh and his men drown in the sea, and they ate Manna in the desert – but can’t fathom how all these came about because they do not know the ways of God. But Moses understood God’s ways, and God could speak to Moses as a man speaks to a friend. When you truly know God, not only is He your loving Father, He also becomes your friend.
Beloved, our walk with God is a relationship that is meant to bring us closer to knowing Him. One of the most important aspects of any relationship is knowing the person you’re together with. When you truly know your spouse for instance, you know their likes and dislikes. Really, because you have stayed together for a while, you know when to ask for a favour or make a demand from each other. Why? You have developed such a relationship that you become so confident about the kind of responses you receive from each other in any given situation. Now, such a level of confidence you place in your spouse or loved ones is exactly what you have when you know God.
What does it mean to know God? Knowing God is more than having a mere knowledge about Him. It’s about a spiritual awakening rooted in a transformative relationship with Him that’s characterised by love, trust, and obedience. When you truly know God, you will understand that God is love; you will know that He is dependable and can be trusted; and above all, you will know that God demands your total allegiance rooted in your obedience to Him (Isaiah 1:16-20). When you have this knowing about God, you totally surrender all to Him, making Him the Lord over your life without any reservation. Hallelujah!
As a believer in Christ Jesus, you must understand the power of knowing God for yourself if you’re to fulfill your destiny without running into trouble. Daniel 11:32 says, “The people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” In God’s kingdom you can’t do exploits for God if you’re weak. You must be strong to do great and mighty things for God. Recently, I was watching a well-respected man of God on Youtube, and he said: “When you know God, you wear God.” In other words, you put on the very nature of God. Someone may ask: How do I know God personally as a loving Father? The answer is simple. It begins with your belief in God. “The fool says there is no God” (Psalm 14:1). “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
Second, seek to have a relationship with God. David said, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4). Remember, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). If I may ask: What do you treasure in your life? Does God really matter in your life? Do you seek to fellowship with Him? Third, seek to know God in prayer. In Exodus 33:11, Moses asked the Lord to show him His glory. What was he really asking? Moses hungered to know God better. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). The Lord said in Jeremiah 29:13, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
Fourth, seek to know God in your study of His word. Speaking through the mouth of Prophet Hosea, the Lord said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). He said further in Isaiah 5:13, “Therefore, my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge.” Remember, ignorance is the absence of knowledge. The cheapest way to acquire knowledge and annihilate ignorance is to study God’s word. Yes, the book of the Law – Bible – shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1:8). If you do so, you know God. Finally, seek to know God by obeying His voice. As you obey God when He issues a command to you, He takes you up in a deeper dimension in your intimacy and knowledge of Him. Jesus said to His disciples, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”(John 14:15). Remember, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken” (Isaiah 1:19-20). Hallelujah! Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With Love. Elvis!
