Who Owns Your Mind

A few years ago, I was watching an interesting movie, and the leader of the bad gang said to his followers, “Your mind is not your own. It is mine; you do as I say”. And they all echoed, “yes sir”. It was a pathetic movie because the followers wrought great havoc in the entire city as they carried out the bidding of their master. As I watched in dismay, the Lord whispered to my heart saying, “This is exactly the position of so many people today who have sold their souls to the devil. They do as Satan commands them.” No wonder there has been so much evil going on in the world. The activities of the devil today have become unprecedented. Why? It is because many minds have been hijacked by Satan, and as a result, they become willing vessels in his hands to execute evil activities. Listen, what could cause a 22-years old final year student in the university, with a GPA of 4.0, to carry out the most heinous act of killing Charlie Kirk in cold blood? The answer is clear. His mind has been hijacked by Satan.
Some time ago, I was watching CNN. Suddenly there was a news flash about a British actor, who was being given an award for his great achievements in the movie world. Then he was asked to share how he achieved his success. And he began by saying: “I give all the glory and thanks to Satan for making it possible for me to achieve all these”. I was stunned by his statements. I just looked at him, and shook my head. Hear me, your mind is the powerhouse that governs what gets permitted or disallowed in your life. Whosoever controls your mind, controls your life. Romans 6:16 says, “Do you not know that to whom you give yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey.” The devil knows this so well, and that’s why he wages war over your mind. He does not only want to gain control over your mind, he wants to possess it. And the bible warns us saying, “Give no place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27). That is to say, do not allow the devil to gain access or control over any area of your life, especially your soul (mind, will, and emotion). Have you ever wondered why some people contemplate suicide and still go ahead and do it? It’s because another force beyond their control has taken over their mind.
Proverbs 4:20-23, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” In the light of this scripture, we can as well say, “keep thy mind with all diligence”. For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). The state of your mind does not only determine how far you go in life, but how you ultimately end in life. Presently, I am taking a course on mental health and wellness. Globally, there has been a huge surge of mental illness plaguing a lot of people, especially the youths. As such, there’s an immense pressure on the government, particularly in the western world, to proffer a lasting solution. Yes, millions of dollars are spent yearly to curb the situation. Things like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), confusion, worries, depression, self-condemnation, suicidal tendencies, anxiety, and nightmares are all sicknesses of the mind. They are basically an attack induced by the devil to destabilize one’s mental state and ruin their lives.
In her book, The Battlefield of the Mind, Joyce Meyer shows readers how to change their lives by changing their minds. Our mind is the greatest weapon that we have. It can work for or against you, depending on how you put it to use. Now, how do one effectively think in a way that the devil does not hijack the mind to work against him or her? First, you must understand that as a child of God, “You have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). While admonishing the brethren at the Corinthian church, Apostle Paul said to them, “Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5). What is the mind of Christ? It’s a mind submitted, yielded, and under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit. How does the Holy Spirit exercise control over your mind? You see, at new birth when you gave your life to Christ, your spirit was reborn, but your mind remained intact. It’s your duty to renew it. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” An unrenewed mind cannot be under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
For a mind to be renewed, it must be cleansed from filth. David said in Psalm 51:7, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” Listen, it is the Word of God that cleanses us from inside out. Jesus said to His disciples, “You’re cleaned by the Word I have spoken to you” (John 15:3). Psalm 119:9 declares, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your Word.” Until your mind is daily renewed by the cleansing Power of God’s Word, you will not be able to discern what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God for your life. When you have a renewed mindset, the devil cannot hijack your mind. When he speaks or suggests a thought to your mind, like Jesus, you will reply to him immediately by saying, “IT IS WRITTEN” (Matthew 4:1-11). Job said, “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). Yes, you need to treasure God’s word and be daily loaded by it so you will know what is Written (Colossians 3:16). As such, you’re able to pull down every Satanic stronghold and cast down every evil imagination of the devil (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).
Hallelujah! I believe you have been richly blessed. Have a Fantastic Week. With Love, Elvis!
