Courage in the Midst of Adversity
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “Courage in the Midst of Adversity”. In the journey of life, the place of “tough times” cannot be ruled out. As they say, “Tough times don’t last but tough people do”. Ladies and gentlemen, may I announce to you that adversity is an essential part of life that you can’t wish away. The key ingredient to overcoming adversity is how you handle it. That is why you see two people facing a similar challenge and one is being swallowed by the problem but the other rises above it. The question is why? It’s all about the mindset. What is adversity? It is a state of adverse condition, misfortune or calamity. The story of Job in the Bible exemplifies a classical case of real adversity. Usually, God allows adversity for a reason. Indeed, adversity serves as a barometer to measure the greatness in an individual. The real you manifests itself in times of adversity. Your ability to continue or withdraw from the race of life is normally tested at times when faced with fiery trials.
According to Proverbs 24:10, “If you faint in the day of adversity your strength is small.” Meaning, “Quitters don’t win, and winners don’t quit.” The potential in you surfaces in times of adversity if only you don’t throw in the towel. Never give up. David would not have summoned the courage to fight Goliath, if he had initially run from the lion which attacked his sheep while as a shepherd boy. By the time David faced Goliath, he realized he had the potential in him to defeat the giant because he had earlier encountered a lion and he conquered. Alfred D. Souza said, “Problems are the price of progress. The obstacles of life are intended to make us better, not bitter. Adversity has advantages.” If you notice today, people are complaining due to the harsh economic climate they are facing. Indeed, things are really tough for most people. But what should you do in situations like this? Fold your arms and blame the government without doing anything? No! You must arise and do something if you want to succeed.
The greatest gift God can offer you is to push you into a temporary crisis that requires you to try your wings. Let me give an illustration using the eagle. An eagle is a special creature that can look at the sun and fly towards it without blinking an eye. The best of an eagle is displayed during a crisis situation. It soars with the storm. There is something the mother eagle does to the eaglets at their tender age. As the young eaglets grow, the mother eagle begins to destroy the nest holding the eaglets, thereby causing discomfort to them. It does it little by little and for a purpose. A time comes when the nest is totally destroyed, forcing the eaglets to fly. Yes, an eagle that cannot fly cannot fulfil its purpose. Likewise, your life will lack meaning until you discover your wings. One of such ways of discovering your wings is through adversity. Remember, the Lord said he will never leave nor forsake you (Joshua 1:5). It doesn’t matter what it is you’re going through; the Lord is right there to deliver (Isaiah 43:1-3). Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
