Firm Resolution

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title “Firm Resolution”. In life there are certain decisions that if you do not make, you run into trouble. For instance, as a married man, you will sometimes come across other women that appear more beautiful or have better qualities than your wife. This also applies to married women too. But wisdom demands that you must always hold your spouse in high esteem. If suddenly your wife becomes ugly or unattractive in your own eyes, and you start looking elsewhere, then you are inviting real trouble in your home, as we can see how too many marriages are parking up today. For a marriage to work, there is a strong need for both parties to make a firm resolution. Meaning, as a man or woman, before you say “I Do”, you must be ready to become blind to other opposite sex no matter how attractive they look. Yes, it must be firm…unshakable decision, backed by the grace of God, if you want Peace & Blissful Marriage. Now, firm resolutions are decisions that we make that either moves us closer or away from our destiny. Meaning, there are positive and negative resolutions. The question is: What resolutions are you making today? Is it pushing you forward or backward?
Today happens to be the last day in the month of January 2022. How are you faring in your resolutions for the year? Are your actions moving you closer or further away from realizing your goal for the year? In Daniel 1, the bible declares that, “Daniel purposed in His heart”. What did he Purposed? He made a firm resolution that he will not defy himself with the Kings meat served by Nebuchadnezzar. Along with his friends (Meshack, Shedrach, and Abednego), they decided not to eat the food dedicated to idols. Listen, they were not the only Jews who were held captive in Babylon. There were others, who also made their resolutions. These other young Jews decided to drink and eat the food dedicated to idols, not minding the consequences. While Daniel and his companions were honoured by God, the names of these other Jews were never heard. Why? All due to Firm Resolutions! According to 2 Timothy 2:20-21, “In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” The above scripture says “If anyone cleanses himself”, meaning there is a firm resolution to be made if you and I are to become vessels of honour.
I have a friend who worked as a civil servant in one of the states in Nigeria. A very wonderful man, dutiful and diligent with his work. Somehow, things didn’t go well between him and his superior at work, and he was transferred to another department where he felt so frustrated. A mutual friend told me he saw him some time ago weeping in public, and he told her that he has made a firm resolution to commit suicide due to the hardship he was facing. This lady persuaded him not to do so, encouraged him, and gave him some money. Not long after they met, he still carried out that suicide mission by hanging himself in his bedroom. Today many are making some deadly resolutions due to pressures of life, while others due to careless living. Listen, we are in the last days. Therefore, we must learn to start living intentionally. As a child of God, one major firm resolution you must make this year is to guard your heart and mind. You must be very mindful of the thoughts you entertain. As someone said, “Watch your thoughts, for they become belief; Watch your belief, for they become action; Watch your actions, for they become habits; Watch your habits, for they become character; Watch your character, for it becomes your future.”
The book of Proverbs 23:7 tells us, “As a man thinks in His heart so is he”. Listen, your life moves in the direction of your most dominant thought. If I may ask: What goes on in your mind? What thought do you entertain? Remember, “garbage in, garbage out”. Meaning, what you entertain in your mind – positive or negative – is what you will produce on the outside. Therefore, like Daniel, there is a need to make firm resolution in your life regarding what you eat, what you watch, what you hear, friends you keep, places to go, who to marry, the kind of job to apply for and so on. Yes, you must make a firm resolution today to draw closer to God. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you”. The prodigal son made a firm resolution to return to his father, and his father ran towards him when he saw him coming. Really, it doesn’t matter how far or how long you have strayed. Like the prodigal son, the Lord awaits to receive you with His outstretched arm, as you make a firm resolution to submit your life to Him. I hope you have been blessed. Have a Fulfilled and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
