Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today, I will be sharing with you what I title, “God’s Ability and His Promises”. When considering promises, the ability of the person making a promise is of utmost importance. If the ability of the person making the promise is in doubt or questionable, then there is no need putting your trust in such an individual. Like the saying goes, “Beware of a naked man promising you a shirt”. Why? It’s absolutely abnormal to put your hope on somebody promising you a shirt when he’s not putting on one. Naturally, we do know to a great extent the financial strength of those close to us, especially as it relates to fulfilling their promises. For instance, you know your Dad so well that he can’t afford a motorcycle, talk less a car. Now he’s promising to buy you an SUV when he’s still trekking. In fact, it will take an audacity of faith to believe him because you know his financial status.

Now we have an Almighty Father – the Great I Am that I Am – the one who can never lie (Numbers 23:19). The word of God declares that “The earth is the Lord and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1). Meaning, God owns all things, and has the capacity to make promises and be able to fulfill it. Hallelujah! Listen, when God gives a word, it is certain. Yes, He watches over His word to see its manifestation. He says in Isaiah 55:11, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Oh yes, “For His promises are yea and Amen” (2 Cor.1:20). That’s to say, God’s promises are irrevocable and His words infallible. This is the reason why our hope and trust must be in God, and not in man. Why? Man at his best is still fallible. For this reason, Prophet Jeremiah declares, “Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:5-8). Hallelujah!

You see friend, we have a God that cares for us (1 Peters 5:7). Only Him can do what no man can do. According to Bob Hoekstra, “God’s ability has a critical relationship with His promises. The greater we see His ability, the surer we are of His promises. Man’s ability is one of the basic reasons we generally doubt his promises. This is one of the significant differences between God’s promises and man’s promises. Man’s ability often runs into human impossibilities. The Lord is not limited by the impossibility factor.” The question is: Why is it difficult for many people to hold on to God’s promises. You know why? We do not spend enough time with God to really know the integrity of His character and personality. If we truly know him, we will not doubt a single word from his mouth. This is one area Father Abraham understood so well that he was called the friend of God. The bible declares that “Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was also able to perform” (Romans 4:20-24).

It grieves God when we doubt Him. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”. If I may ask: How confident are you in God and His word? Hebrews 10:35 declares, “Cast not away your confidence in the Lord which has great reward”. God does not want us to stand on two opinions as to whether He will fulfill His promises to us. We must be confident with our hearts fixed on His word without wavering or doubt. “For he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord” (James 1:6-7). God’s promises and blessings are open to us to grab (2 Kings 4:1-7). You can grab as much as you can, so long you abide by faith in Him (Luke 8:43-48). For without faith, it is impossible to please God. God’s riches and blessings are inexhaustible, but it only eludes us when we recline to unbelief. Have a blessed and fantastic week in Jesus Name. With love, Elvis!
