Hunger and Thirst for God.
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name. Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “Hunger and Thirst for God.” There’s a new level of complacency that has set into the body of Christ today that has rendered the church weak and being ridiculed by the unbelievers. It’s a situation where many so-called believers in Christ are so comfortable in their empty state of lives without power. Unfortunately, what affects the world affects them. If the world is sick, they’re sick; if the world murmurs and complains, the believers do also. There’s no difference. Unfortunately, they accept everything that the devil throws at them. They wish and long to possess what is rightfully theirs but it keeps eluding them because the enemy is holding them captive. And because many have lost touch with God, their sense of reasoning and judgment has been thwarted and corrupted. As a result, they cannot accurately discern what is that good and perfect will of God for their lives (Romans 12:2). We’re living in the last days (2 Timothy 3:1-13). The bible says in Matthew 24:12, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Beloved, there’s a saying that, “Self-evaluation is the engine room for progress.” You see, there’s power in conducting self-audit. What it does is that it shows you areas of your life where there’s a gap, and the necessary action you must take in order to experience progress.
If I may ask: When last did you conduct a spiritual audit of your life? How’s your love for God? Can you pray for at least an hour a day? Do you create time to study and meditate on God’s word? Do you struggle to obey God’s command? Are you a covenant breaker? As a believer, do you fall into sin regularly? Is social media distracting you from staying focused? You see, the love and passion for the things of God are fast fading away today from the lives of many believers. In recent times, I have seen some people denying their faith in Christ to join other religions, especially the traditional religion where sacrifices are offered to the idols. Really, these are tongue talking believers in Christ, who were once workers in the church, but all of a sudden, had a dramatic encounter with Satan and they made a u-turn from following Christ. The question is: What really went wrong? Is God no more God? Is Jesus no more Jesus? Has the Holy Spirit stopped being the teacher, comforter, encourager, counsellor, strengthener, and defender to the hopeless? Of course, not. The bible said in Romans 3:4, “Let God be true, and every man a liar.” For “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). If things are not going well for man, it’s not because God has changed; No! It is because man has changed or altered his ways before God.
Today what we call Christianity is alarming. If we should truly examine the life of Jesus, and learned the way he walked with his father in obedience, studied the word, prayed and fasted, preached the gospel, humbled himself, healed the sick, had compassion and love for the people – and then compare it to what we see and practice today – then you can quickly judge by yourself that we are far behind. Unfortunately, many have found an alternative for God. If things are not working as expected from God, they know what to do to get things work. As a result, many had sold their souls to the devil. And not only their own souls, but leading their followers to destruction. If I may ask: Where is your fresh hunger for God today? The bible says in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” How hungry are you for God? How desperate are you to know what God is doing in this season? How desirous are you to please God, love Him, obey His commands, stay committed to His will for your life, pray, fast, study the word, and wait on him before making any move or decision?
David said in Psalm 27:4, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that I will seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” Hallelujah! David was a man who understood what it means to thirst and hunger after God. He said in Psalm 34:8-9, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints.” If I may ask: How’s your taste bud for God? Sweet or sour? Your taste buds for God can never be okay if you do not thirst and hunger for Him. You know, if you despise God and have no regard for Him, He will equally have no regards for you. Period! The Lord said in 1 Samuel 2:30, “For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.” How do you honour God? The bible says in Matthew 22:37, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Hear Me, when the love of God is in your heart, you reverence and obey His commands. At that point, no one reminds you to do the will of God or do those things that are pleasing in His sight. You just make God your topmost priority by loving what He loves and hating what He hates. I pray as you go this week, your hunger and thirst to do the will of God will be a phenomenon such that your allegiance and trust in Him will be unshakeable in Jesus Mighty Name (Daniel 3:16-18). Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
