It Is What You Know That Sustains You
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name. Today, I will be sharing with you what I title, “It Is What You Know That Sustains You.” While ministering at church service yesterday, my Pastor emphatically said, “It Is What You Know That Sustains You.” The phrase hit me like a thunder bolt. Really, it caused a shift in my thinking at that moment, and I knew that was what the Lord wants me to focus on for the week. Immediately, I began to write on my tablet as the Holy Spirit dropped some thoughts into my heart. Ladies and gentlemen, may I begin by asking: What do you know? Job declares, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth” (Job 19:25). Hallelujah! What does it mean to know? To know means to be aware of through observation, inquiry, or information. When you know Physics or Maths, it means you have thoroughly inquired, learned, investigated, and researched the subject matter. When you know someone intimately, it means you have developed a relationship with that person through meeting and spending time together, and have become familiar or friendly with the person.
Listen, knowing is about foreknowledge that guarantees certainty and assurance of your stand or opinion about something. In life, what you know puts you ahead of others who don’t know. As someone said, “Your contemporaries who are ahead of you in life are not smarter than you; it’s just that they are doing early what you’re doing late.” The question is: What are you doing late that others are doing early? You see, what you are doing late that others are doing early boils down to two things – knowing and doing. We are a product of God’s knowledge, and can only be sustained by His knowledge here on earth. The bible declares in Proverbs 3:19-20, “The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; By His knowledge the depths were broken up, and clouds drop down the dew.” And in Proverbs 19:2 the bible says, “It is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, and he sins who hastens with his feet. The lessons we can learn from the above scripture is that, two things can ruin your chances of success in life – ignorance and haste.
As a matter of fact, you have to understand what you are doing before you embark on it, which means you must first learn to slow down, and carry out some research before rushing in. God wants us to be thoroughly furnished by His knowledge. Not knowing what you should know can be disastrous, and land you into trouble. Indeed, when you “know” you have an “edge”, which is called “knowledge”. Knowledge gives you an edge. As they say, knowledge is power. God knows the importance of knowledge in our lives. He said in Hosea 4:6, “For my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Ignorance which is an absence of knowledge have robbed people of their blessings and kept them in captivity. Isaiah 5:13 declares, “My people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge.” This will not be your portion. You will not go into captivity due to lack of knowledge in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Habakkuk 2:14 says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
Indeed, where there is no knowledge, there is no glory. It is your knowledge of who the Lord is, that ushers you into His glory. Hallelujah! Therefore, if the earth is not filled with the knowledge of God, ignorance rules, and darkness takes over. You must understand that knowledge is light; it’s an illumination that guides our path. It can only come by feeding on God’s word. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light to my path.” You can never walk in darkness when you’re filled with the knowledge of God’s word. Hebrews 1:3 says, “The Lord uphold all things by the word of His power.” Apostle John wrote saying, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). We know him when we develop an intimate relationship with him by studying and meditating on His word. Admonishing his spiritual son Timothy, Apostle Paul said to him, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). There’s so much to know about our heavenly father. His knowledge is unending.
Apostle Paul declares in Romans 11:33, “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” He also went further to declare in Philippians 3:10-11, “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” Listen, at the point Apostle Paul was writing this, he wasn’t ignorant of God’s word or knowledge about who God is. He has already attained some certain dimensions of God’s knowledge, but he came to a conclusion that there’s more to know about God. Therefore, he kept pressing to know more, because in knowing you climb higher in life. Listen, growth is a function of learning. In God’s school, learning doesn’t stop. The day you become full and stop learning, you start dying. Yes, the more you know God, the more He reveals a new dimension of who he is to you, and the more of His glory will be revealed through you to the world. In 2 Corinthians 2:14 the bible declares, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.” God cannot diffuse the fragrance of His knowledge through you when you are ignorant. Remember, ignorance is a disease; It Is What You Know That Sustains You. Hallelujah! I hope you have been richly blessed. Have a Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
