Living Beyond Your Human Senses.
In my Biology class in secondary school, we were taught the five human senses. These include: sight (vision), hearing (audition), smell (olfaction), taste (gustation), and touch (tactile perception). These five senses, facilitated by the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin respectively, work together by sending information to the brain, allowing people to perceive and interpret the world around them. For instance, the sight which is perceived by the eyes is able to detect light and process it into images, allowing us to see colors, shapes, people, and our surroundings. Hearing, perceived by the ears, detect sound waves and send vibrations to the brain, enabling us to hear various sounds; Smell perceived by the nose is able to identify odors, often linked to memory. Taste, perceived by the tongue, is able to discern flavors in food, such as sweet, sour, and bitter. And with the mouth, we’re also able to communicate as humans. Finally, Touch, perceived by the skin, is able to detect pressure, temperature, and pain, and helps us feel the texture of objects. In the physical realm, if you are deficient in any of these five senses, you will be limited in relating effectively with your environment.
The Bible declares in Psalm 115:5-6, “They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell.” Really, if you cannot see, you will be easily deceived or cheated by someone. For instance, Jacob deceived his father Isaac, to collect the blessing meant for his brother Esau. Why? Because Isaac could no longer see with his physical eyes. When he realized what Jacob has done, he said to Esau, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing” (Genesis 27:18-35). On the flipside, you can have your two eyeballs wide open and functioning well, but cannot see beyond your physical environment. For instance, the Syrian army came seeking to arrest Prophet Elisha. They surrounded the city with horses and chariots. Elisha was not perturbed, but his servant who was with him became so afraid, and asked: Master, what shall we do? But Elisha replied saying, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them. And Elisha prayed, and said: Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see. Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:16-17). Hallelujah!
From the above story, we see that there is a dimension God wants us to operate. A realm where, like Elisha, we can perceive and see what is happening far beyond our vicinity. This can only happen when we possess what I referred to as spiritual sense. This sense takes over where our human senses stop. Elisha’s servant couldn’t see what his master was seeing because he was limited by his physical eyes. But with a spiritual lens, you can have an insight into what the ordinary eyes cannot see (2 Kings 6:8-17), hear what normal ears can’t hear (1 Kings 18:41-44); taste or speak what a normal tongue or mouth cannot do (Luke 21:!5; Colossians 2:20-22); smell what others cannot perceive (Philippians 4:18); and feel the touch which the normal human skin cannot feel. Jesus said: Who touched Me? When all denied it, Peter and those with him said: Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say: Who touched Me? But Jesus said: Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me. Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately” (Luke 8:45-47).
In the above story, Jesus did not feel the touch of those around Him even though they were thronging at him. But there was another touch. When he felt that unique touch, he said: Who touched Me? Knowing what has happened to her, the woman who did it came forward immediately. Listen, there are things our human eyes can’t see or perceive except through the eyes of the spirit. You’re limited in spiritual revelation if you operate only within the confines of your human senses (1 Corinthians 2:13-16). The question is: How do we operate in this higher dimension of life? Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, Jesus, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.” Hallelujah! Hear me, for those who believe in the son, Jesus, He lives and dwells in you by His spirit.
The Lord Jesus is not only with us, He has also given us the Holy Spirit that teaches us and reveals all things to us. He said in John 14:15-18, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Beloved, I am so glad to announce to you that the Spirit of truth – The Holy Spirit – is here with us from the day Jesus ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of His Father (Hebrews 1:1-4). But you must embrace and develop a deep personal relationship with Him, so that He can pour his spirit on you without measure. How do you do so? Daily desire the fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, spend quality time in His presence, praying in the spirit, talking to him, expecting to hear from him, following his leading as he instructs, and doing those things that are pleasing in his sight.
Hallelujah! Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
