Looking Unto Jesus.
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name. Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “Looking Unto Jesus.” Let me begin by saying that there’s no problem bigger than God, and no situation God cannot handle. What makes our problem look insurmountable is simply our Focus. Does your problem or challenge appear more real than the power of God to save and deliver? Until you come to a place where you magnify God more than your present circumstances, you’re not a candidate for breakthrough. Many today are heart-broken because they see problems more than they see God. Hebrews 12:2 declares, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Beloved, when trouble comes knocking at your door, where is your first port of call? Is it to scream and panic; to run helter-skelter; become bewildered and confused; or to lose your mind and become depressed? Listen, if any of these are present when you’re faced with life challenges, just know that the devil is lurking around you, doing overtime around your life to get you alienated from the saving power of God. The bible declares in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” Being vigilant here simply means to stay focused on God without losing sight of him. Yes, outside of Christ is crisis.
Recently, I realized that my US Visa had just less than two months to expire. Very unlike me, I did not make adequate plans early enough for my visa renewal. Now, I have a program to attend in the US about the time my visa will expire. And if I travel into the US, the visa will expire while I am there at the conference. If you’re familiar with US visa applications in Nigeria, it’s a herculean task, especially getting an appointment date for visa interview or for drop-box. In fact, I have seen cases where people waited for over a year to get a visa interview appointment date and their visa application fee expired. In my case, I needed a date for the drop-box to submit my passport. Unfortunately, the dates available will be months after my visa has expired. Really, I got so perplexed and angry with myself. I remembered one evening, I walked up to my wife in the kitchen, and she was like, “Udy, why is your countenance so sad. Is it because of your US visa drop-box date? Is God not bigger than that? If it is God’s, you will get the date.” You know what, I didn’t reply a word to her, but just left the place. The following morning, I was having my quiet time, and I brought the matter before God, letting him know how unhappy I was about the whole situation. Immediately the Lord responded to me saying, “Son, is anything too hard for me to do (Genesis 18:14).”
Then He ask me to open to the book of Ephesians 3:20-21 that says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Afterwards, he said to me, “I am bigger than the appointment date that you seek. Go and take your shower and have your breakfast.” Immediately, I went upstairs, took my shower, and as I just came out, I got a call from my travel agent saying, “Dr. Elvis, you have been given an appointment date for your US visa drop-box in three days’ time. Please, fill up your visa application form immediately.” Ideally, when you submit your US visa application form by drop-box it takes about two weeks to three weeks maximum. But in my case, the visa was stamped into my passport three days after I submitted my passport. The entire process of getting an appointment date, filling the application form, submission, and getting the visa took just a week. Listen, this is what only God can do when you look up to him. David the King said, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:1-4). Hallelujah!
Hear me friend, I don’t know the challenge or circumstance you’re faced with right now. It may not be a visa application issue like I had. It could be marital crisis, run away children, financial crisis, health challenge, house rent, children’s school fees, just name it. They’re all problems; it does not matter which name it bears. What really matters is what you focus your attention on. Is it the problem or God who can solve the problem? This is where many miss it, and they find themselves enmeshed and entangled with more troubles than they bargain for. Why? Because they lose sight on God – the solution provider. You can never be put to shame when you look up to God for covering. Yes, God will not leave you naked without covering when you run to him. Psalm 34:5 says, “They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.” Listen, it came to pass that three nations came to war against Jehoshaphat, King of Judah. Really, he was sore afraid, but his fear drove him to God, not away from God. He gathered his people and proclaim a fast throughout all Judah. Then Jehoshaphat stood before the Lord and said, “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?…O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You” (2 Chronicles 20:1-12). I pray as you go this week, may your eyes be on God. If you read the entire chapter of this scripture, you will see how God fights for those who put their hope and trust in Him. Yes, Jehoshaphat triumphed over his enemies (Exodus 14:14). Your faith in God can never be denied (Mark 11:22-24). Remember, “Do not cast away your confidence in God, which has great reward” (Hebrews 10:35). Hallelujah! Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With Love, Elvis!
