Prerequisites for Divine Promotion (Part 3)

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today, we shall continue on our series titled, “Prerequisites for Divine Promotion”. In our previous series, we learned what Divine Promotion is all about, the meaning of the term “Prerequisite”, then we touched some of the prerequisites that necessitates Divine Promotion in our lives. And some of which includes: Seeking First the Kingdom of God, and Obedience to God’s Commands. Today, we are going to expand further on the prerequisites. Now, the third prerequisite on my list for divine promotion is Humility. What is humility? Humility is the quality of being humble. The words “humble” and “humility” come from the same root word, “humilis.” Humilis is Latin for “low or close to the ground.” Humble is an adjective, so it is used to describe someone, whereas humility is a noun. They both basically mean the same thing. Dictionary definitions accentuate humility as a low self-regard, the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance. In other words, humility is seen as freedom from pride or arrogance.
Now, if there is one thing that God hates, it is pride and arrogance. Proverbs 6:16-19 says, “These six things the LORD hates; Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood; A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. From the above scripture, you can see that the list of what God hates begins with “A proud look”. The book of James 4:6 declares, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” In life, pride and arrogance is the shortest route to remain down and pinned to the ground. The antidote to pride is to stay humble. One thing about humility and pride is that both produces or emits fragrance. Yes, it’s not hard to locate one when you see it. Why? It’s because it smells. When someone plagued by arrogance enters the room, you will see it immediately by the way they speak, talk down on others, exalt or praise themselves. An arrogant person displays folly because they are blind. But a humble person is different. They do not talk down on others, seeking self-praise, or take credit that is due to others.
Speaking about Jesus, the bible said, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” (Philippians 2:8-10). Have you asked why people resist or distance themselves from you? Have you bothered to ask yourself why the favour of God seem to be very far from reaching you? If so, quickly take a moment and conduct a self-audit by asking further: Do I take correction from others when I am wrong? Do I rebel against authority? Do I look down on others, especially my leader or supervisor by saying within me – “I would have been a better leader than he is” or “how can this little brat that I am older than be ordering me around”. If such negative things are resident in you, and it’s not expunged immediately, then you will be sentenced to the valley side of life for a very long time.
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” Indeed, “When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom” (Proverbs 11:2); “Before honor comes humility” (Proverbs 15:33). And remember, “The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate” (Proverbs 8:13). Indeed, pride which is the opposite of humility is a high way of evil. Yes, it is a sin because it is “self-centered” rather than “God-centered” perspective on life. I pray, you and I will remain humble before God that He may exalt and promote us in due season in Jesus Mighty Name. We will continue from here next week by His grace. Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
