Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “The Power of Prayer”. Brethren, there is no better time than now for us to roll up our sleeves to pray. Wickedness and evil in the land have reached a crescendo, that if you do not pray you become a prey. Yes, this is the hour to rise, take authority in the place of prayer, issue decrees, and reverse all the wicked intents of the evil one against your life, family and nation. This is not the time to sit back and be at the receiving end of all kinds of the arrows of the devil, and be nursing your wounds. The injuries can be avoided when you and I become proactive rather than reactive. You don’t wait until the enemy strike before you fight back. In the art of war, it’s a bad strategy to allow your enemy to encroach your territory with AK47 ready to aim at you before you carry your own machine gun. If you love watching war movies like me, you realize that every military base is fortified with weapons, and they have soldiers stationed in strategic positions keeping watch. There you see some soldiers standing on top of the building, some mounting the gate, while others with long range binoculars watching to see if there are enemies in view. Today, many believers are walking about naked because they are lukewarm – neither hot or cold. And as a result, all kinds of things perch on them. Jesus declared in Revelation 3:16, “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing – and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.”
I grew up in the village. I observed as little boy that while my mum was cooking, flies don’t go near a hot pot. They are far away from the kitchen. They only come back when the fire is completely out. Then you see them perching on the pots, feeding on the spoons, and even on the stove they once dared never to go near. Why? The enemy can’t stand fire. You are on fire when you pray, and fire dispels every demon in your vicinity. “For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). You take up the nature of God, and get wrapped up in fire when you stay in constant prayer. “For as He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). To keep the fire burning, Jesus kept constant touch with his father by prayer while on earth. “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, Jesus went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed” (Mark 1:35). Jesus made prayer a lifestyle, and we cannot be any different if we want to overcome the heat and battle before us. As a believer, how do you tolerate opening your two eyes wide to watch helplessly what the devil is doing against your – business, marriage, children, health, finances – without opening your mouth to issue a decree. The bible declares in Job 22:28 that, “You will decree a thing, and it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.” And Jesus said in Matthew 16:19, “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Listen, all power belongs to God, and He has given you that power through His Son Jesus Christ.
In Luke 10:19 the Lord declares, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Beloved, you have power! So, why walk about so weak and powerless, seeking for sympathy when you should exercise the power and authority you have through prayer. Do you really know who you are? You are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26); Greater is He that is in than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4; You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14). You must know who you are, and never bow to the enemy in Jesus Mighty Name. Now, while preparing to transit out of the earth, Jesus gave us a charge saying, “Watch and pray lest you fall into temptation” (Matthew 26:41). Someone may ask: How often should one pray? The book of 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing.” The Psalmist buttressed the point by saying, “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17). This is what I called the power of consistent prayer watch. Yes, all round the clock prayer to keep the enemy at bay. A man or woman that prays is dangerous to the enemy. No wonder Mary, Queen of Scots wrote, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe. John Knox was a man whose prayer life caused an entire nation of Scotland to stand still for God. He was once prayed, “Lord, give me Scotland, or I die.” Yes, his prayer affected the constitution of Scotland till this day.
Jesus spoke to his disciples saying, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He left them to pray, with the hope they will join him too, but when he returned, he found them sleeping, and said to them: Could you not watch with Me one hour” (Matthew 26:37-40). I enjoin you today to do a self-audit, and eliminate everything taking the hour of prayer away from your life, beginning with excessive love for sleep. The bible declares, “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way” (Matthew 13:25). You must understand the power of prayer, especially at midnight, so you tear down what the enemy is concocting against your life. Hallelujah! Arise in prayer today, make a demand from heaven and see heaven move on your behalf. The Lord declares in Isaiah 62:6-7, “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes, and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” Now, as I draw the curtain to a close, be a watchman over your household, your community, and the nation. Stand as a combatant soldier, and give no place to the devil. Have a fantastic and prayer-full week in Jesus Mighty Name. With love, Elvis!
