The Untreated Wound.
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “The Untreated Wound.” Growing up as a child, I was so playful. I could play to the extent of forgetting one of my shoes at the playground, and return home wearing just one. I remember my Dad will take his time to interrogate me to know exactly the places I visited, so he could help trace the other shoe. In those early years of my life, one common denominator that marked my excessive playing was constant wounds, especially on my legs. Ecclesiastes 10:9 says, “He who quarries stones may be hurt by them, and he who splits wood may be endangered by it.” You cannot play excessively without getting injured. I could lose two toe nails at the same time due to rough play. What is a wound? By definition, a wound is a type of injury which happens relatively quickly in which skin is torn, cut, or punctured (an open wound), or where blunt force trauma causes a contusion (a closed wound). In pathology (the study of disease), wound specifically refers to a sharp injury which damages the epidermis of the skin. Usually, when there is a wound on my leg, my father will take me to a local chemist shop (pharmacy) or to the general hospital depending on the severity of the wound. In those days as a little boy, there were two things I dreaded most: The sight of syringe at the hospital, and one harsh liquid solution called iodine that’s usually applied to fresh wounds. So, to avoid going to the hospital or chemist shop in those days, I will try as much as possible to hide the wounds from my parents.
Unfortunately, the more I hide it, the more terrible the wound becomes. Then sooner or later, my mum will observe the way I am limping on one leg. Have you ever sighted a wound that’s left untreated? Really, if a wound is untreated, some things are noticeable, especially if it’s an open wound. You will find that the wound will attract germs, and after a while due to bacterial infection it produces some offensive odour; and then it gathers some unwanted visitors such as flies if the wound is not bandaged. As a little boy, when our wounds were left untreated, it was common to find flies following us about. Why? Flies feed on dead things. Never forget, untreated wound equals death in view (Psalm 38:5). If you’re like me who loves to watch the National Geographic Channel, you will observe that if an animal in the jungle, say a Buffalo, is injured or wounded, and the wound is left untreated, and the Buffalo limps as it walks, sooner you will find vultures gathering around the vicinity. Why? They do so in view that the Buffalo will soon die so they can feed on it. Unfortunately, the gathering of these vultures also informs other predators that there is a food somewhere close by to feed on. Indeed, this is how terrible it is to leave a wound untreated.
Today, many believers in Christ are walking about with untreated wounds in their lives. They try to cover it with nice clothes, good perfumes, fake smiles, active engagements in church, but yet, they are dying slowly on the inside. As a child, I tried so hard to cover my tracks so my parents won’t find out my wounds. You see, you can’t cover a dead thing for long. Soon, the smell will come out. Like the scripture rightly said in Numbers 32:23, “Your sin will find you out.” Why? It is because “He who covers his sins will not prosper. But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). When we uncover our deep-seated wounds before the Lord, we receive healing. Beloved, I don’t know the kind of wound you’re covering and carrying about today. It could be wound of offense, wound of unforgiveness, deep wound of sorrow or grief resulting from loss of a loved one, emotional wounds from broken relationships, wounds from long waiting for fruit of the womb, wounds resulting from past mistakes, lost opportunities, failure in business and career; wounds from abuse, rape and molestation, just name it.
Hear me, I have good news for you. The Lord is saying this today, I am more than able to heal and restore you. Why? Because “He (Jesus) was wounded for your transgressions, He was bruised for your iniquities; The chastisement for your peace was upon Him, and by His stripes you are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Hallelujah! Now, he is saying to you, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). If I may ask? How long will you keep enduring the pain and suffering from your wounds without treatment? It is time to uncover it before the Lord, let him apply that spiritual iodine you need to get healed. Yes, the wound may have resulted from your playfulness like me, or inflicted on you by someone without cause. Look, it doesn’t matter how it came; what really matters is you getting healed by allowing the healing power of God to flow through you. “For He is the Lord that heals you” (Exodus 15:26). Right now, I prophesy over your life this day, you are healed of every wound (Jeremiah 30:17). The Lord will restore all your wasted years in Jesus Mighty Name (Joel 2:25). Remember, the year has just started; therefore, do not allow any wound to fester in your life untreated. Your deliverance has come; You will possess your possession (Obadiah 1:17). Hallelujah! Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
