Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “The World Owes You Nothing”. Recently I read about a young boy who was arrested for snatching a woman’s purse containing less than ten dollars. Weeks later, when asked by a judge why he stole the money, the boy responded, “Because the world owes me a living”. I laughed real hard in my office when I read the story. Indeed, one could reason that this poor boy has believed a lie, and acted upon it. Probably he heard from friends or family members around him making those heinous statements and he believed it. Ladies and Gentlemen, hear me clearly: The world owes you nothing, you owe the world. The book of Romans 8:19 say, “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Meaning, the whole world waits to see your exploits that will bring about the well-being of others.

Just think about the good things you enjoy today – the Light, Airplane, Car, TV, Internet, Telephone, and others – someone paid the price for you to enjoy it. Mandela paid the price of freedom for the people of South Africa, Martin Luther King paid with his life for the emancipation of the blacks in America, Mahatma Ghandi paid the price for what the Indians are enjoying today, George Washington paid the price to abolish slave trade in order to restore equal right to live like any other race, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, some of these people never knew Christ, but served humanity with all their heart. According to Dennis Kimbro, “Think of the untold millions who have laid down their lives in order to make our world a better place. Wherever we go, millions have paved the way. Generations have planned our reception upon earth; countless have prepared a table before us ready, guarding against danger, saving us toil and drudgery. How dare we say the world owes us a living?” While speaking to the elders of the church in Ephesus, Apostle Paul admonished them saying, “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Just think of it: How would this world have been, if all we do is seeking for only those we want to receive from without giving back. In fact, it would have been a very hostile and selfish world to live in. Really, you and I owe the world by making it a better place for us all.

Speaking to a large crowd at the Capitol Hill in 1961, John F Kennedy said, “In my hand and in your hands lies the future of this great country America. Think of what you can do for your country, not what your country can do for you”. This profound statement, spurred a huge motivation in the heart of many Americans to start doing things for their country. Many young Americans began to write business plans instead of writing CVs to get a job. They turned entrepreneurial and began to contribute to their national GDP. The likes of Bill Clinton, Bill gates, Steve jobs, and others emerged from that generation. Remember, the world owes you nothing. You owe the world your talents, your gifts, your ideas, your creative ingenuity and innovations. According to Myles Munroe, “Don’t be a generational thief.” Never deny the generation unborn what they should have received from you. There is something unique and special about you that the world is waiting to see. Do not die full…die empty, releasing all the gift and talent that God has poured inside you. Listen, it’s not always about money. Just as little as empathizing with someone in pain will go a long way in lifting their burdens. Therefore, as you go this week, be a blessing to someone by putting smile on their face. You can be rest assured that those smiles and blessings will come back to you in multiple folds.
