What Can I Do Differently Now

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “What Can I Do Differently Now”. There is a saying that, “Evaluation is the engine room for progress”. Meaning, at some point in your life, you have to sit back and access your progress in life. It is at this point that you ask yourself some critical questions like: What is working out for my good in life? What isn’t working? Am I progressing or retrogressing? Where do I need to make a change or amendment? Where, how, and when do I begin to initiate the necessary adjustments needed for my progress in life? Really, your ability to conduct self-audit or evaluation goes a long way in ensuring a lasting progress for your life. If taking stock or inventory of events happening around us isn’t important, we wouldn’t have known that there were 3,000 souls that responded to a call for salvation when Apostle Peter preached (Acts 2:38-41). Yes, Jesus wouldn’t have asked the disciples to gather the left over and take stock of what was left after feeding 5,000 men with five loaves of bread and two fishes (John 6:12-13).
Today many people are stuck doing the same thing repeatedly over the years without any visible progress. Unfortunately, the people that fall into this category are so engrossed in their way and pattern of doing things that is not yielding fruit, and yet, they are not ready to take stock or inventory of their life to track where they are missing it, so they can take the necessary measures needed to correct the anomaly. As someone said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result”. Now ask yourself: What is that one thing I have been doing repeatedly that is not adding value to my life? Looking at what you do presently, do you feel you’re in a rat-race – a life moving round a circle – without progress? If so, what action are you willing to take to change it? You see, in life nothing just happens. You make time to make things happen. You have to take drastic measure to break every cycle of unproductivity that wants to keep you in one spot or position in life.
A young man came to my office years ago wearing a heavy and gloomy look on his face. Then I asked him, what the problem was? He said to me he’s being used like a donkey where he works. He narrated his ordeal of how he works all through week for the company, yet he’s been paid a meagre salary. I listened to him carefully, and then asked: How long have you been working there? He said, 13 years. I probed further and asked: What area of business is your company into? He said computer training? Then I asked again: How long does it take to learn and master the trade, so one can start doing that line of business? He replied, six months to a year. Finally, I asked him: What has held you bound there for 13 years? At that moment, he began to think. He could not give me a definite answer. Really, with a desktop computer, he could have started on his own, having served faithfully for years with that company. But like the definition of insanity says, he was stuck doing same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result, but to no avail.
Unfortunately, he was always complaining, not knowing when to quit. Like David, whose property was destroyed and family taken captive, we should learn to look up, and inquire of the Lord by saying: “Lord, shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And the Lord replied David, “Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all” (1 Samuel 30). Meaning, if you choose to do things differently by looking unto God, He will give you the direction you need for your next promotion. Now, as we embark into the second half of 2021, this is the right moment to conduct self-evaluation, and make necessary adjustments. Yes, you can’t remain in one spot this year. It’s time to go forward, not backward (Jeremiah 7:24). Remember to ask yourself: What am I doing today that must change this year, so I can be on “Top Speed” in my career, business, health, finance, academics, relationship with God and others? Have a fantastic week as you experience God’s Bountiful in Jesus Mighty Name. With love, Elvis!
