What Manner of Man is This.

While in the airplane flying across the Atlantic this past week, I began to meditate on the awesomeness of the person of Jesus, the impact that He made on earth, and the weight of responsibility He left for us as Christians before ascending to the throne to be with His Father in Heaven. Then I paused and asked myself: Elvis, how are you measuring up on heaven’s agenda and expectation for your life? Can unbelievers point at you and say, “what manner of man is this” because they see Christ in you? Now, how about you? Are you measuring up to heaven’s expectation for your life? Listen, I say this because there is so much showbiz going on in the church today. Most believers in Christ do not know who they are and why they’re called Christians. Unfortunately, those who know the truth are living in denial and have become rebels against the very truth they should defend. May we not stand before our Maker being ashamed of ourselves by the kind of life that we lived here on earth. May our ascension into heaven be a homecoming with the cloud of witnesses cheering and standing in ovation as we appear before our Master – the God of all creation – the maker of heaven and earth.
Hear me, we’re not called to blend in, but to stand out as Christians in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom we’re to shine as lights (Philippians 2:14-16). What does it mean to stand out? Simply put, it means to be unique; to be set apart and separated from among equals. “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord” (2 Corinthians 6:17). Unbelievers in the world will not ask: “What manner of man are you” if they can’t distinguish themselves from you. They’re sick, you’re sick; they’re confused, you’re also confused; they engage in immoral lifestyles, you do the same; they steal, you’re a senior thief that they know. So, what moral right or justification do you have to preach to them and ask them to repent of their sins when you’re just as they are? “Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying: Lord, save us! We are perishing. But He said to them: Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So, the men marveled, saying: What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him” (Matthew 8:23-27).
From the above scripture, the disciples of Jesus became astonished by His authority over nature saying, “What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him.” As a Christian, you are being watched and cross-examined by others around you – in your office, your neighbourhood, on the street, in the marketplace, and wherever you go. You don’t tell them who you are. When they see a Christlike character or nature in you, they know. On several occasions, some strangers that I don’t know will walk up to me and ask: Are you a Pastor? Apostle Paul declares in Colossians 1:27, “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” When the glory of God is upon your life, it’s evident to all. Yes, no man can cover it. The unique nature of God in you singles out, and bears witness to everyone that you’re a servant of God. A star cannot be hidden (Matthew 2:2). “For by their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:16). The question is: What fruit are you producing as a Christian? What fragrance or aroma are you diffusing to the world that’s attracting them to Christ? The bible declares in 2 Corinthians 2:14-15, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.”
Zechariah 8:23 says, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” Beloved, we’re in the days of God’s power where the kind of creative miracles and grace that will be released upon the chosen ones will be so evident and felt such that the world would say, “What manner of people are these.” Listen, it’s not a question if this will happen or whether God will do it. It’s whether you and I are ready for the move of God that’s about to shake the planet at this hour. I don’t know about you, but I am ready. The choice is yours. The book of 2 Timothy 2:20-21 declares, “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
Are you ready? The Lord said to Prophet Ezekiel, “Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them” (Ezekiel 38:7). Hear me, heaven is more ready than you think. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). What’s delaying so many of God’s moves on the earth is the unpreparedness of the Christians. Many believers in Christ are not in sync with heaven’s agenda. The Lord declares in Ezekiel 22:30, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” God is looking for those that He will showcase His power through. May we respond to his call like Prophet Isaiah who said, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me” (Isaiah 6:8). Hallelujah! Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
