When God Is On Your Side

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “When God Is On Your Side”. In Psalm 124:2-3, the Bible declares: “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us”. It is a tragedy for a man to be in a position where no one can help or reach him. Life struggles continue when God’s help is nowhere to be found. In Psalm 51:11 David said, “Cast me not away from your presence”. David knew the danger of not having God on his side. Listen, he who puts his trust in the Lord shall not lack God’s support, and will never be put to shame. The Almighty God will surely be on your side when your hope and trust is in Him. Yes, the audacity of our faith in God makes the difference in any situation we may find ourselves. Like I usually tell those who care to listen, “Faith is to God as Fear is to the devil”. “For without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). I have a very close friend who was on a death row for 16 years. He was falsely accused and sentenced to death for an alleged murder he did not commit. While on the death row he witnessed over 400 executions. This was during the military regime in Nigeria when executions were quite rampant in prisons. It was in this pathetic state that he found Christ.
He shared his testimony to us in a full gospel fellowship meeting some years ago, and narrated how he escaped being executed on several occasions. Though he remained steadfast and unshakable in the Lord, but he was finally slated to be executed. This time around it appeared he could not escape from being hanged. On the final day he was supposed to be executed, something strange happened. The list containing 40 people to be executed was ready, and he was number 29 on that list. On the morning of his execution, he was given his last food, and handcuffs were placed on his legs and hands. Before leaving for his execution, he tore Jeremiah 39:17-18 out from the Bible, stepped on it and said to God: “Lord, if I am executed today, let no man believe on this scripture in the bible because it did not save me.” The bible declares in Jeremiah 39:17-18, “But I will deliver you in that day,” says the LORD, “and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword; but your life shall be as a prize to you, because you have put your trust in Me,” says the LORD.”
To his amazement, everyone on that list was executed on that day in Enugu prison except him. What happened? His name got missing from the list. The place where they had his name written on the list became blank, and there was a pandemonium in the prison that day. The hangman said he cannot hang a man whose name is not on the list. They checked on the master list but could not find his name either. Who erased his name? You know what? The Almighty God did it and spared his life. The news of what happened went viral, and Amnesty International got interested in his case, and he got a good lawyer who fought his case, and he was finally released from prison. The bible declares from Isaiah 49:24-26, “Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, Or the captives [a]of the righteous be delivered? But thus says the LORD: Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible be delivered; For I will contend with him who contends with you,
And I will save your children. I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh, and they shall be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine.” All flesh shall know That I, the LORD, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Today, my good friend, is now an Evangelist, travelling all over the world, and to prisons in Nigeria, preaching the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through his NGO, the Lord has used him to negotiate the release of so many prisoners who were held unjustly in various prisons across Nigeria for offenses they did not commit or know nothing about. I always tell people, let your problem push you to God not away from God. “For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me, says the Lord” (Isaiah 49:23). Our God is never too early or too late; He will always show up right on time. Just be patient, trust in Him, and He will right there to rescue you. Remember, “If God be for you who can be against you” (Romans 8:31). The Lord said, “I will fight for you and you shall hold your peace” (Exodus14:14). I don’t care what it is you’re going through today. Your problem cannot be bigger than God. If you can put your hope and trust in God, you will not be put to shame. You might say Bro. Elvis, here is Christmas close by, no money or food on the table; debts are hanging on my neck; the children’s school fees is beckoning, piles of bills waiting to be paid, and so on. Don’t worry! Like the woman with the issue of blood, be steadfast, and put your Faith in God (Luke 8:43-48; Mark 11:22-24). He will save you…you will not die. Hallelujah. Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
