Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude”. Let me begin by saying categorically that, how far you will go in life will be determined by your attitude. Some years ago, I was in traffic along Maryland in Lagos, and a book vendor came by my car dangling a book to get my attention. And I look at the title of the book and it goes, “Attitude is Everything”. I tried getting my attention off the book but I heard a voice saying to me, don’t you think it’s worth knowing why the author of this book is making such a bold and emphatic statement about attitude? Then I asked for the price and bought the book. The author, Keith Harrell, said: “The greatest discovery of my generation is that people can alter their lives by altering their attitude of mind. It’s no secret that life seems to reward us most when we approach the world with a positive attitude.” Indeed, attitude is everything. Unfortunately, many blessings and honour coming to some people have been diverted as a result of bad attitude. In recent times, the Lord has been dealing with me, overhauling my life and pointing my attention to certain areas to deal with decisively in order not to stall progress. We’re all work in progress, but must respond positively to God’s corrections in our lives for the progress to continue. You see, a bad attitude is like a flat tyre. You can’t progress much further unless you change it. Yes, a flat tyre stalls progress.
I have seen motorists trying to drive on a flat tyre. The sight can be very terrible because not only does the vehicle cause unnecessary attention due to the awful noise it generates as it moves, but it causes untold damage to the car. Really, there’s no question that a bad attitude can have a negative impact on your life. Have you ever come across people talking about someone and you hear them say, “He got an attitude? The question is: What is an attitude? Attitude is defined as “a learned behavior created by our beliefs which are produced by our thoughts. It has a lot to do with our response to people, situation or circumstance – and whether we lean toward the positive or negative.” One thing about attitude is that it smells – it is not hard to discover one when you see it – especially when it is negative (1 Samuel 25:1-10). Have you bothered asking why people try avoiding you? Or why you try avoiding some people? Do people miss you if you are not around? Or would they say “thank God she is not here today – at least we can have our sanity”. The answer to these questions boils down to one thing – Attitude. Like someone said, “Attitude is 100 percent of everything you do.” A lot more reasons why some people do not get favors or have God answer their prayers – is as a result of bad attitude. The Israelites spent forty years in the wilderness for a journey meant for just 40 days (Numbers 14:34). Why? Bad Attitude!
Our God continuously checks our hearts to see the intents of the imaginations of our heart. No wonder David said in Psalm 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD.” David knew the danger of having a wrong attitude that can derail his relationship with God.The bible declares in 1 Peter 5:5 that, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble”. Attitudes such as pride, arrogance, ingratitude, rudeness, unforgiving, and stiff-necked are highly detested by God. Ephesians 4:26-27 says, “Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” Due to bad attitude, the sun has been going down on so many wraths among couples, siblings, friends, families, and so on. God frowns at it, because it ruins relationships, and brings an untold setback to the lives of many. Really, nobody can stand someone with a bad attitude. According to a Harvard University study, it was found that when a person gets a job, 85% of the time it is attitude that keeps him or her on the job, and only 15% of the time because of how smart they are and how many facts and figures they know.
No wonder as the saying goes, “Certificate can give you a job but attitude keeps you on the job”. Meaning, with a bad attitude you can’t stay long on the job. Sooner or later the employer will show you the way out – You’ll be Fired – the same way Lucifer was fired from heaven and he became Satan (Isaiah 14:12-20). Yes, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). There can be no two CEOs in the same company. One must give way. If there’s one thing no one can stand, it is a bad attitude. It does not matter how good or smart you’re, if your attitude stinks, everyone will distance themselves from you. May that not be your portion in Jesus Mighty Name. Remember, your Attitude – Positive or Negative – is your CHOICE. Therefore, as you go this week, embrace a new attitude that portrays a positive outlook towards life, yourself, and others. Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
