Friends, Happy New Year! This is a year like no other. It is a unique year that the Lord will do a new thing in your life. Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, “A Brand New Beginning With Jesus”. The Bible declares in Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?” The year 2020 is going to be your year of God’s immeasurable grace and abundant blessings. But you must position your yourself for it. It won’t just happen by wishful thinking. You know, we live in a country that is so religious. Each year, men of God from various churches declare a word to their congregation that become the mantra for the year. You hear things like: your year of grace, your year of miracle, your year of greater glory, and so on. Stickers will be produced in line with those words. And many will paste the stickers on their cars, doors, bible, and so on. Really, if drive through the streets of Lagos now, you will see how so many cars are already baptized with stickers of various kinds. In fact, you will wonder if the cars are more “Born Again” than the individuals. Unfortunately, you realize that the year come and go, and no real change occurs in the lives of many people. There is a saying that, “As you make your bed, so you must lie on it.” Meaning, if you want new thing to happen in your life this year, you must do what attract new things.
Sometime ago, I saw a very beautiful building with colourful paintings which I admired. But when I watched closely, I observed that the building was tilting to one side. In other words, it was sinking. I was pondering what could have gone wrong with such a magnificent building that it should be heading towards a disaster. Then I heard a still small voice saying “foundation”. What is foundation? According to the dictionary, “It is the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level.” Proper foundation is what gives a building stability. In Matt. 7:24-27 Jesus declares, “Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, shall be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” If you truly want to fly in 2020, then you can’t afford to do without Jesus. In John 15:5 Jesus says, “For without Me you can do nothing.” No building can stand without solid foundation. We see quite a number of them collapsing in our society today.
Now, Jesus is the only sure foundation upon which you can stand strong in 2020. A lot of times we set new year resolutions that are not resolute. Why? It’s because it’s not founded upon Christ. Any resolution made outside Christ is useless – it can’t stand. As the saying goes, “many people look forward to the New Year for a New Start on old habits”. Let’s be honest, how many times have we set our minds each New Year to achieve certain goals and you find yourself unable to achieve any of them? You discover that the resolution we make do not pass the first few weeks of the year, and then we forget our resolutions – back to our usual lifestyle that has always yielded the same old result that we don’t want. What habit(s) do you want to give up this year? Is it drinking, fornication, drug, adultery, pornography, anger, bitterness, name it; Or what do you want this year? Is it a house, car, marriage, promotion at work, etc? Listen, anything is possible. Why? “With God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37). Just look up to Jesus and build on His word this year. If you are not born again yet – receive Jesus now – then see how your life will turnout at the end of this year. Have a Blessed 2020. With love, Elvis!
