Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today, I will continue on the series we began last week titled, “Conquering Self-Limitations.” Let me say in advance that this topic will end by next week as against today that I promised. Really, I have to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as He interrupted me, and directed the message to be split further to part three, to enable you digest and grab the full gist of the message. Last week, I emphatically noted that, if you want to know who is behind all of your setbacks, don’t be quick to point fingers at anyone, just look straight at the mirror and the person you see is behind it. Limitation by definition is a restriction or a defect, or the act of imposing restrictions. When you are only allowed to walk to the end of your room, this is an example of a limitation. When there are certain things you ought to be doing but incapable of doing, these are examples of limitations. Thus, “self-limitation” refers to something, either physical or mental, that you create and that limits you. If someone or something has limitations, that person or thing is incapable of unleashing his or her full potential in life. Now, the limitation that we cannot readily see and is of greater concern, is spiritual limitation. Spiritual limitations restrict, restrains one’s capability and can delay, derail, or destroy someone so they can’t achieve or fulfil their preordained destiny in life. I want to let you know that the devil is the architect of all limitations. Interestingly, he cannot work all alone against you without your cooperation. There must always be a door open to him before gaining access into your life.
Like I said last week, at the root cause of our many problems are the access points opened to the devil through sin committed willfully by ourselves or our family lineage (1 John 5:18; Exodus 34:5-7). Another access point for Satan into our lives may not necessarily be our sin, but through our foolishness and ignorance of his devices. Many of us are so naïve that we allow all kinds of relationships and things into our lives. Unknowingly, we open the door to the enemy. And when that occurs – it leads us to sin – and bring limitations to our lives. For instance, many years ago after my secondary school, I left the village to the city. Guess where? Lagos! It was a joyous moment escaping from village farming and subsistence lifestyle. Lucky me, I cleared my WAEC Exam in one sitting, so nothing taking me back again to the village, except going to pay visit to my parents. Here I am in Lagos, preparing for my JAMB Exam, having fun, and painting the town red with friends, without Christ in my life. What a fool I was then. Now, there was this neighbour of ours where we lived that just came from the US with a carton full of movies. Those were the days of VHS Cassette Tape. Whenever I needed to watch a movie, I simply go to their house and pick as many video tapes I want. One hot afternoon, I went to pick a video tape, and I saw a particular movie that appeared interesting, then I picked it.
When I got home, I slotted it in to the video machine to watch. But unknown to me, it was a high rated “Pornographic” movie. Rather than remove it immediately, I became curious to view what was happening. After all, no one was at home. So, I sat for two hours feeding my soul with such demonic junk. When I stood up from the chair, I became another man entirely, with an unusual demonic hunger for sex. Immediately, I started masturbating – a lifestyle that I never knew before – that almost wrecked my life. My life took a negative turn – physically, mentally, and spiritually – without break or control for sexual addiction. What got me into all this mess in the first place? It’s simple! I opened a door to Satan into my life. He capitalized on it, and that door opened all kinds of afflictions into my life including – sickness and disease, failures, low self-esteem, delays, mental and physical torture – that I thought of given up on life. Today, many are captives of the devil by their own making. Just one night out with a female secretary in the office, a man has been brought low to a piece of bread – got his marriage ruined, home shattered, children scattered – and destiny unfulfilled. Someone may ask: Did you get your freedom? Oh, yes! Jesus made the difference. Next week, I will be sharing with you on how Jesus helped me conquer, and the weapons you need to overcome any self-limitations in your life. Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
