Intimacy With The Holy Spirit

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today I will be sharing with you on what I title, Intimacy With The Holy Spirit”. Let me begin by saying that, the greatest gift God gave to mankind aside His son, Jesus Christ, is the Holy Spirit. Like my pastor & mentor, Tunde Bakare, would say, “When God gave us his son Jesus, he gave us his best; but when he gave us the Holy Spirit, he gave us his all.” Interestingly, the Holy Spirit is not in heaven, he is here with us on the earth. Jesus said to his disciples in John 16:7, “It is expedient that I go away; for if I do not go away, the comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” From the above scripture, the word expedient means, needful, helpful, proper, and suitable. By implication Jesus was telling his disciples that it is advantageous to them that he departs, so the Holy Spirit – the comforter – would come. By definition, a comforter is a person or thing that provides consolation. To console means the act of providing succour and making someone feel better. And this is one major role of the holy spirit in our lives in a world where many people are comfortless.

Friends, we are living in the “Now” of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, many believers who should be carriers of fire are limiting the workings and dealings of the Holy Spirit in their lives by not allowing him to express himself through them. If I may ask: What is the essence of holding a bottle of water while you are thirsty but can’t drink from it? Why do I go about carrying the holy spirit but there is no evidence of his manifest presence in my life? Listen, there are battles to fight as a believer in Christ Jesus. Except you’re ok with the level of limitations you are experiencing right now, then you can continue to sleep on “mouka foam”, and still be rattling in pain and oppression. But if you desire a higher dimension of life, you must jump out from that bed of slumbering, get fortified by the spirit of God, and then look at the devil straight in his eyes and say, “enough is enough.”

You cannot have the Holy Spirit in your life and remain the same. “For you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts1:8). His power must be evident in your life. His presence in your life must change you and affect your outward appearance, except you choose to hinder his flow. Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” You see, the biggest problem with many believers today is not the absence of Holy Spirit in their lives, but having him and not allowing his workings and dealings in their lives. The influence of the Holy Spirit in your daily activities – your utterances, actions, relationship with others, promptness to obey and follow his leadings – is the secret of abundant living and achieving good success in life. Aside being your comforter, there are many things Holy Spirit is to our lives. In my next write up, we will be looking at further workings and dealings of the Holy Spirit as we develop an intimate relationship with Him. Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
