Staying Focused
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name. Today I will be sharing with you what I title, “Staying Focused”. One major ingredient for success that you and I need this year is staying focused. Really, it should be a major part of your prayer each day to say, “Lord, keep me focused this year”. To achieve anything in life, we need Total Focus. To be focused means “Directing a great deal of attention, interest, or activity towards a particular aim.” In other words, not staying focused means getting “distracted”. Today, there are many things causing us to be distracted. And we all know that no meaningful thing can be achieved when you get distracted. For instance, no athlete can achieve a gold medal by running and looking back at the same time.
Today is the 29th day of January 2024. By Wednesday the month of January will be behind us, and the month of February will be ushered in. Thus, the cycle continues till we hit the month of December. The danger here is that, if you’re not focused on what you really want to achieve this year, you’ll be so amazed that December will come and you have nothing to show for the year. Dear friend, this is the time to hit the ground running and get started on whatever goal(s) you have set for yourself for the year. Jesus declared in John 9:4, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” You cannot afford to wake up in the morning, fold your hands doing nothing, and expect blessings to flow (2 Thessalonians 3:10). No! God is not a magician. He cannot do for you what you can do for yourself. Each day you wake up carries its weight of blessings (Psalm 68:19); and the corresponding work that must be done for the blessings to flow in your direction. You do your part, and God does His part of blessing the works of your hand (Deut. 28:12).
Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This is emphatically true because with God all things are possible (Luke 1:37). But we must also understand the context in which this scripture is applied. As the saying goes, “You can do anything but you cannot do everything at the same time.” Yes, you can do all things through Christ, but you should understand priority, by doing one thing at a time, otherwise you lose focus. To be truly successful at anything, you must be able to focus your entire thought upon the idea you are working on. Whenever you have a divided attention, it becomes impossible to set your face steadily toward the work required of you. That reminds me of the story of Jesus and Martha. “Now it happened as they went that Jesus entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:38-42).
In 2024 you have to stay focused on that one thing that is “needful”. When you focus on something, your “mind and will” naturally comes to alignment or agreement in achieving what you aim to target. In Philippians 3:13, Apostle Paul said, “This one thing I do”. What is that one thing that you will do this year? You can’t afford to be doing everything at the same time. If you do, you will be like the proverbial hunter who tried aiming two birds at the same time with one stone. In fact, it will be very difficult to hit his target because both birds will fly away. This year you must learn to do one thing at a time. If it is only one thing that the Lord lays in your heart to do this year, then pursue it with all your heart, and do it with all diligence (Proverbs 10:4). I see you shining forth and achieving greatness in 2024. Remember, Stay Focused. Have a Blessed and Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
